Adjustable Bed Bases

Tell me about the adjustable bed base.

Most base frames are made from metal. The number and kinds of motors vary in different models. Leggett and Platt, one of the largest manufacturers of adjustable bed bases, makes both AC and DC motors. In most models, the motors raise the head and foot of the bed. But in high-low models, the entire bed raises and lowers, making it easier to get in and out.

Buying Tip: Check with the retailer or read what others are saying to see if the motors on the bed you’re considering are quiet.

Many bed bases are designed with a "Wallhugger" feature which keeps the bedside table within easy reach, even when the head of the bed is raised. The bed base is usually operated by a wireless remote or wand. In some models, the bed is operated by a wired wand.

Also, the massage feature is built into the base of the bed.

If you are interested in an adjustable bed that looks like a conventional bed, look for a model that has a "box spring appearance".

Buying Tip: Many adjustable beds fit into the regular bed frame you may have.
