All About Adjustable Beds

What is an Adjustable Bed?

Adjustable beds allow the user to raise and lower the foot and head of the bed into a variety of positions, making it easier to sit up in bed, or incline or lower legs. These beds generally operate on an adjustable bed ‘base’ with electric motors. The mattress on an adjustable bed is much like the mattress on a non-adjustable bed, but be sure to buy a mattress that is suitable to work with the motorized base.

Why do people buy adjustable beds?

Adjustable beds enable you to sit up in bed more comfortably. In addition, most adjustable beds offer a massage feature. A few offer a built-in heater function. People buy adjustable beds to help with back problems, shoulder and neck pain, circulatory problems, gastric reflux, breathing, snoring and leg problems.

How do adjustable beds work?

There are generally two components to an adjustable bed: the adjustable bed base and the adjustable bed mattress. The bed base is built with electric motors which raise and lower the sections of the bed. Many dealers sell the bed base with a mattress for the adjustable bed.

Buying Tip: Some retailers and manufacturers allow you to buy just the bed base, or to just replace the adjustable bed mattress.
